“Kandie." Joe grabbed onto my arm to stop me. "Go upstairs, and go to sleep." He told me.
"No, I'm fine." I shook my head at him.
"No, you're not. You're exhausted, Kath, go take a nap." Joe cupped his hands around my face, so I would look at him. "Please, love, you look like you're about to collapse." He told me.
"Joe-" I tried to speak but he cut me off.
"Go, Katherine. Now." Joe looked at me, (determination) mixed with a plea was in his eyes.
I sighed. "All right." I gave into him.
"Good girl." Joe smiled at me, leaned forward, and planted a kiss on my forehead. "You still look gorgeous, by the way."
I gave him a tired smile. "Thank you." I turned, walked up to my bedroom, and was a sleep on my bed a few minutes later.

I sat down on the living room couch, and sighed while running my fingers through my hair.
"What are you sighing about?" My mother, who sat in a chair reading, asked me looking up from her book.
"Kandie. She's stubborn." I looked up at my mom. "She'll keep going and going until she's about to collapse." I shook my head, a smile spreading up my face.
"And you're crazy about her, Joe." Mom smiled back at me. "You always have been." She closed the book she had been reading. "Before we left for England we were visiting her family, and you stayed with her, Sarah, and Jane as Daniel, and (David) were swinging them around. You weren't worried about Sarah or your sister getting hurt. You were watching Kandie." She smiled sweetly at me. "I don't understand it, just like you don't, how two people can love eachother for so long, and still be together. I just know that my son has been in love with the same little girl ever since he was eight-years old, and has never stopped loving her. He only continues to protect, watch, and take care of her." She sat back comfortably in her chair.
"And I will continue to do that, until the day I die, or Christ comes." I told her, and I ment it. "I don't want her to hurt herself by tiring herself." I leaned forward, resting my elbows on my knees. "She's always focused on others, and never on herself." I clasped my hands together, Kandie's love for others was one of the many things I loved about her. It was almost a weakness of hers. She would get so focused about taking care of others that she often forgot about taking care of herself.
Mom stood up from her chair, and stepped over to me. "Which is why you are perfect for her, Joseph?" She placed her hands on either side of my neck. "You take care of her, while she takes care of others." She straightened back up and left the room.
I looked after my mom, she never called me Joseph. Only Kandie ever called me by my full first name. She must've gotten into her reading. I shrugged, stood, and followed her. I made my way up to the bedroom I shared with Kandie, opening the door slowly so as not to wake her. My wife lay asleep on her back on our bed, one hand resting on her stomach, the other by her head on her pillow. I lie down next to her, and closed my eyes. I lie there a few minutes, listening to Kandie breathing in her sleep. I opened my eyes back, when I felt her touch me, I smiled when I realized she was still asleep, and just as usual was just feeling me next to her. I slipped one arm around my petite wife, and closed my eyes again.

I felt Joe lying next to me, as I began to wake out of my slumber. I slipped my arm from around his waist, as I opened my eyes. I sat up, pushing my hair back out of my face.
“Hey, baby.” Joe whispered.
“Hey.” I looked down at him, his smiled stretched across his face.
“Did you sleep well?” Joe rubbed his hand up and down my back.
I nodded. “Mm-hmm.” I smiled sleepily at him. “I needed it.” I tilted my head to one side.
“Are you glad I made you come up here?” Joe reached up and touched my face. “You’re pretty.” He sounded like a little boy, it was so cute.
I laughed. “Thank you.” I leaned down and kissed him. “You don’t look so bad yourself.” I tapped my finger against his lips.
